Spring Portfolio Workshop

A proper blog post is on the way but I couldn't wait to share some photos from my recent portfolio workshop! A group of such amazing and warm florists gathered in my Kent studio to learn the wedding business and get some truly amazing images for all of their portfolios.

Come and join me for the next one in August! You will create a bouquet, table centrepiece and large installation piece. Importantly ALL of your items will be professionally photographed with a model and then sent to you for you to use as you please. I've been on too many workshops myself where the photographer seemed to be mainly there for the workshop host - I'm determined for my courses to be different.

Huge thanks to Imogen Xiana for the photos and Ellie Gill for makeup. Imogen uses film and knows how to capture flowers like no one else! Ellie is local to me in Tunbridge Wells and she uses only natural products to work her magic! xx

Sunny Workshop Day (and British Flowers Ruling the Roost Once More!)

What a beautiful week we are having! Perfect timing for my workshop on Monday - we even managed lunch in the sun! Which was a relief as it may have distracted from the rather burnt savoury tart I attempted for the first time... Hmmmm next time I should probably start cooking before 9pm the night before.

We were utterly spoiled for choice with British blooms. In fact everything below is British except the roses, tweedia and butterfly ranunculus. This week I got lots of lovely bits from my local grower, Turissa, and also a couple of boxes from both Pratley's and Flowers by Clowance. Look at the size of those tulips and ranunculus! And of course everyone had the pick of what they wanted from my garden.

This week we had an interesting mix of attendees which meant there were all sorts of different angles of the flower world to chat about:
Lovely Helen, who is a very talented floristry teacher and has been in flowers since she was 16 (lucky thing!)
Sarah, who is an amazing grower and florist from West London (thank you for the seed tips!)
Jane, who has a background in interior design and is just starting out in flowery land
And, last but not least, Vicki who has been flower arranging for yonks as a hobby and blew me away with her wild urn in the afternoon.

Thank you for coming everyone, do keep in touch!

Wedding Workshop For Florists at the Kent Studio

In January on a freezing cold day I welcomed an absolutely gorgeous group of women to the cosiness of my studio in Kent. It was actually the last day in the studio before the big revamp and so I tried to palm off various unwanted bits of furniture!

Usually everyone gets to forage in the garden but they all looked a bit relieved when I said I had foraged enough for them if they wanted to stay inside.... On this occasion every attendee was a florist and so we were all able to have a good long gossip about our businesses and how we work. Everyone was so talented and able to bring their own edge to the wintery selection of blooms on offer. I try to be a completely open book during workshops and so we covered everything from social media to how to charm wholesalers.

Everyone's final work had a deeply romantic feel to it, perfect for this Valentine's day run up. We followed the usual pattern of bridal bouquets in the morning (all finished with gorgeous Kate Cullen ribbon) and lush table centres in the afternoon.

Lunch is a simple affair in the oldest room in the house - 12th century I believe! The studio sits separate from the house and is a typical Kent barn, it has been a god-send since we moved here, perfect for my work as a wedding florist as well as for these workshops. I can't wait to show you some pictures when it is completely finished.

Please read more about our workshops here and get in touch if you would like to attend!

Oh and thank you Sarah - I pinched one of the pics below from your instagram.

Emma from A Quiet Style Comes to the Jennifer Pinder Floral Studio

When you have followed someone on instagram for years you can't help but go a bit ‘embarrassing fangirl' when you meet them in real life. And so it was when Emma came to the studio on a frosty January morning.

For those of you who aren't plugged in to instagram quite as much as the rest of us... let me introduce you to Emma of 'A Quiet Style'. To say that she is a 'lifestyle blogger' isn't quite enough because she is a lady who wears many hats - incredible photographer, stylist, crafter, writer, chef, mum… the list goes on. Really I could go on for quite a while. Basically a general all round gorgeous woman who promotes a simple life and getting back to basics and what really matters. We all need reminders of this from time to time. To explain a bit better, let me say that I am quite likely to have a quick flick over to Emma's instagram whenever I am feeling a little uninspired, bored or down. Her images are so beautifully curated and immediately make you feel refreshed and less anxious - whether it is a gooey cake or some simple flowers on a window sill. Emma's library is peaceful and inspiring in it's simplicity. Her eye for styling means that the background story of slow living and a quiet life shine through without the need for words. Take a look. We all need a bit of Emma to get us through this bleak winter!

Anyway, Emma in real life is just as lovely as I imagined. We joked about how I have built up her real life home in my imagination to basically be a Kinfolk set. She promises me that she is a normal person with a normal house in the background. I pretended to believe her.

As those of you who follow Emma will already know, she is an excellent florist. Yup, add that to her list of hats. It was a true treat to have my studio filled with blooms for us to play around with. I foraged foliage from my garden and got in some of the most beautiful hellebores I have ever seen. We both made vase arrangements and then Emma gave me some photography tips for a bouquet that I had made. I must attend one of Emma's workshops in the near future as my styling and photography need some work, but I am getting there and working hard on it in the background!

Emma's vase arrangement is beautiful with a lot of movement. A morning with her was the perfect antidote to the drizzle and politics of the day. Emma was also very kind and let Matilda attend and sit at the table with us on a chair. I wish I had trained Matilda better for workshops! She thinks she needs to oversee everything that leaves the studio!

Oh and the lovely ribbon featured is by Fleuropean xx

QUINTESSENTIAL ENGLISH COUNTRY GARDEN WEDDING at Falconhurst in Kent

It was wonderful to be involved with this beautiful shoot at Falconurst in Kent which featured recently on Magnolia Rouge. Providing the flowers was such a treat becuase the grounds and gardens are absolutely spectacular. In the middle of the main garden there is a huge cutting patch and so with the gorgeous sunshine and two dogs dashing about I was basically in paradise! I brought my mum along with me and thank goodness I did because the arch is high and I needed a reliable ladder assistant!

For the flowers I took inspiration from what grows in the garden at Falconhurst anyway. There is lots of pink and white and a huge range of textures. Falconhurst is such a beautiful wedding venue that it doesn't need a huge amount of flowering - just a few pieces to emphasise what is already there.

Please see the full list of suppliers at the end of the post, an amazing team - thanks gang!
