Wedding At home in Sussex - Sophie and Bean
All photos by Hermione McCosh
Looking back at these images really is such a joy - the wedding was in mid-summer when I didn't really have a chance to sit down and enjoy them properly. Now we are on the brink of winter it is great to look back at warmer times and pretend the wind isn't tearing through my garden (and to ignore my accounts and all the tulip bulbs I need to plant before the frost really hits).
Sophie and Bean got married at Sophie's beautiful family home deep in the heart of Sussex. As soon as I started speaking to Sophie I knew I was in for a treat - she was so relaxed about what we created and I jumped at the opportunity to decorate a boat for the ceremony by the lake (bucket list item ticked off).
Sophie's parents have the most beautiful garden, roses everywhere (one called Sophie of course), wild foxgloves leading up the track to the house and a greenhouse that would be many a gardener's dream come true. Our flowers were really just a slight embellishment to what was already in situ and I found it so inspiring to wander the grounds as I start to take control of my own garden in Kent. I know only too well how much a labour of love a garden is, and I can only hope that one day I will feel as proud of mine as Sophie's parents should feel of theirs.
Another thing that made this wedding so special was the attention to detail. Fabrics collected from travels around Africa made up the napkins, and Sophie crafted some of the pots that were planted up with succulents in the marquee.
Liberty flower girl dresses, a clear span marquee with hanging planks, epic views of rolling hills, a hand embroidered dress... What else could you want in a wedding? Orange smoke bombs? Ok, I'll throw them in too...
